Canary Islands

Canary Islands vaccinations: which ones do you need?

Are you travelling to the Canary Islands? Prepare your trip well. It is good to know that you do not require any vaccinations for your vacation. On this page, you will find some useful information about this beautiful group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Canary Islands are an autonomous community of Spain located on the Atlantic Ocean west of Morocco. The main – and most well-known – islands in the archipelago are Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and La Palma. The islands have a subtropical climate with year-round pleasant summer temperatures and few differences: the eastern islands are somewhat drier, and the western slightly more humid. The Canaries are therefore a popular holiday destination for sun and beach lovers. Even so, there is plenty to do and see for the active traveller: the volcanic origin of the islands makes for rugged landscapes and beautiful scenery to explore. Lanzarote offers spectacular caves, and in Gran Canaria you will find Roque Nublo, and eighty-meter high rock that is the symbol this island. Furthermore, the Canary Islands offer many charming towns and villages, including the lively capitals of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas.  Regardless of your holiday itinerary for the Canary Islands, please consider the health risks. Vaccinations are not necessary but beware of the strong sun and of the desert wind that can be tricky sometimes. Our KLM Health Services health experts gladly tell you which measures you can take to minimise health risk during your stay. Click here to make an appointment with one of our nurses.
