Samoa is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean. The Western Samoa islands are part of the Independent State of Samoa, whereas the eastern islands are incorporated territory of the United States, also known as American Samoa. The Independent State of Samoa consists of two main islands – Upolu and Savai’i – and four smaller islands. The country in Oceania is located north of Tonga and northeast of Fiji. Further to the south and west are New Zealand and Australia, respectively. Samoa has a tropical rainforest climate with a wet season between October and April. Winter, from May to October, is therefore considered to be best time to travel to Samoa. The paradisiacal islands are an ideal destination for travellers who are looking for both tranquillity and adventure. The country is home to beautiful beaches, traditional villages and spectacular waterfalls. Also in Samoa is the largest ancient structure of Polynesia: Pulemelei Mound. The capital Apia is characterised by a pleasant atmosphere and is the only city in the country.
