Lifestyle health check-ups
Lifestyle health check-ups are important because they help maintain good health. By having regular health check-ups, health issues can be spotted and treated at an early stage. Additionally, lifestyle health check-ups can raise awareness about personal lifestyle choices and motivate people to live healthier. A healthy lifestyle, after all, contributes to the prevention of various diseases and conditions.
Why to do a lifestyle health check-up?
Lifestyle health check-ups are voluntary. You can have these examinations done every year to keep an eye on your health.
For some employers, offering medical examinations—such as the Preventive Medical Examination (PME) or Periodic Occupational Medical Examination (POME)—is mandatory, as it is crucial for employees in certain job positions to work in a safe and healthy environment. Lifestyle health check-ups provide insights into the risks employees face, allowing you to take appropriate action.
The main difference between (occupational) medical examinations and lifestyle health check-ups is that participation in a lifestyle health check-up is not mandatory for employees. In contrast, participation in a (occupational) medical examination is required.
There is one exception: employees are only obliged to participate in the POME if this is specified in their collective agreement (Dutch: CAO). This applies to specific roles where risks are high, such as in construction, aviation, and law-enforcement.
