LAPL / drone operator’s health check-up

An LAPL stands for Light Aircraft Pilot Licence and is a European (EASA) pilot certificate. This licence, allows you to engage in activities such as gliding and ballooning, among other things. To obtain this licence, you are required to hold a valid LAPL medical certificate.

If you do not have a pilot licence but operate drones, you will also need an LAPL medical certificate. KLM Health Services can assist you with this.

What does it involve?

The examination begins with a detailed analysis of your medical history. We then conduct several examinations, including the following:

  • Physical examination
  • Urine test
  • Measurement of height, weight, BMI, and blood pressure
  • (Comprehensive) eye examination and colour vision test (for night flying)
  • Hearing test
  • On indication, additional examination (e.g. ECG, blood test, lung function)

If the examining physician thinks it necessary, a consultation may take place with our medical specialists in aviation medicine. For example our cardiologist, psychiatrist, neurologist or ENT physician. The exact content of an aeromedical examination depends on the class of the medical certificate, the type of rating, and the age of the pilot.

When do I need the examination?

  • You can easily undergo a special LAPL aviation medical examination to obtain your LAPL medical certificate.
  • For those under 40 years old, your certificate is valid for 60 months.
  • From the age of 41, your certificate is valid for 24 months.
