Do you need MMR immunisation?

MMR (Mumps, Measles, Rubella) vaccination is recommended for people travelling to a country with an increased risk of measles and who are probably – or certainly – not protected against measles. Before the MMR vaccine, there were three separate vaccines against rubella, measles and mumps. Since 1987, these three vaccines have been merged.

Especially for adults born between 1965 and 1975

  • Were you born before 1965? Then you have probably already experienced measles. You do not have to get a vaccination. If you have never been vaccinated against mumps, measles and/or rubella or have not experienced these diseases, you are at risk of this disease(s) without MMR vaccination if you travel to a risk area.
  • Were you born between 1965 and 1975? Then you run an increased risk of measles, because you were born before it was offered through the National Vaccination Program. Measles was rare at that time. Chances are that you have not produced antibodies against the measles. An MMR vaccination is usually the advice if you travel to a risk area.
  • Were you born after 1975? Then you have most likely already received the vaccination through the National Vaccination Programme. In that case, a new vaccination is usually not necessary.

Didn’t receive an MMR vaccination?

Are you going on a trip and have you never had this vaccination? Then you run a risk, this goes for both children and adults. Make an appointment.

The MMR vaccination is not given if you are pregnant.
