Dominican Republic vaccinations: which ones do you need?

Are you going on holiday to the Dominican Republic? Please be aware of possible health risks for you and your children. Although getting vaccinated is not mandatory, it is wise to do so. The specific vaccinations you require for your trip to the Dominican Republic depend on the duration of your stay.

The Dominican Republic is located in the Caribbean and has a delightful tropical climate with year-round temperatures between 28 and 33 degrees Celsius. The Dominican Republic is very well known for its stunning palm beaches, but it has much more to offer: the capital Santo Domingo – the oldest city in America – for example has a beautiful historic centre which has been designated UNESCO World Heritage. Another highlight is the Samana Peninsula in the northeast; numerous humpback whales gather here every year to mate.

We recommend some vaccinations in any case and others only if you plan to stay on the island for a longer period of time. Besides protecting yourself against diseases, please also take into account the bright sun and avoid mosquito bites (dengue). There is no malaria in the Dominican Republic. Our KLM Health Services nurses gladly inform you about the required immunisations and vaccines for the Dominican Republic and are happy to tell you how to healthily travel to this wonderful island.
