Travel tips

Alcohol consumption
Please note that in some countries, alcohol is completely prohibited or subject to strict regulations. In countries with an alcohol ban, such as certain countries in the Middle East, possession or use of alcohol is punishable. Be sure to inform yourself about local laws beforehand to avoid unpleasant surprises. KLM Health Services is happy to advise you with our tips for alcohol consumption.
Alcohol and traffic
In many countries, different rules apply to alcohol consumption in traffic than you might be used to. In some countries, the allowable blood alcohol content is lower, and in some countries, there is even a complete zero-tolerance policy. Make sure you know the local traffic rules to participate in traffic safely and responsibly.
Some tips
Alcohol can have a quicker effect due to circumstances such as jet lag, altitude differences, and fatigue. Make sure to drink in moderation, especially upon arrival after a long flight.
Alcohol has a dehydrating effect, which is intensified by warm climates and long flights. Alternate with water and drink enough to avoid dehydration.
In some countries, the alcohol content may be different than you are used to. Try local alcoholic beverages cautiously and be aware of counterfeit alcohol, which can pose health risks.
If you are taking medication, especially antimalarial drugs or antibiotics, check whether it is safe to consume alcohol. Some medications can have exacerbated side effects when combined with alcohol.
