Chronic conditions
Do you have a chronic health condition? Usually, travelling a long distance is fine. However, it’s a good idea to think about a few things before you go.
Here are some tips:
- Always discuss your travel plans with your medical practitioner well in advance of your trip.
- Is the trip you wish to take suitable for your health condition? Particularly with more 'active' holidays, you may need a good level of physical fitness (consider having a health check-up to understand your physical condition).
- If you have a serious chronic condition, such as a heart or lung issue, this may affect your ability to travel (including flying). It's important to discuss your plans with your medical specialist and the airline well in advance to determine your options.
- If your condition puts you at a higher risk of needing medical assistance abroad, please check whether the necessary care is available in your destination country.
- Ensure you have enough medication, a medication passport, and – very importantly – insurance that provides adequate coverage for medical assistance abroad and repatriation.
- Have you forgotten to bring your medication? Our airport pharmacy can provide you with medication at the last minute.
