Yellow fever
Yellow fever is a serious disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes, specifically the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The illness can sometimes become severe and even life-threatening. If you are travelling to an area where yellow fever is prevalent, it is essential to get vaccinated.
Where does yellow fever occur?
Yellow fever is primarily found in parts of Africa and South America. If you are travelling to these regions, it is crucial to prepare adequately. In some countries, a yellow fever vaccination is even mandatory.
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms may appear three to six days after infection and can include:
Flu-like feelings
Fever with chills
Nausea
- Muscle pain
Back pain
Headache
General feeling of being unwell
How do you prevent yelllow fever?
Vaccination is the only effective way to be fully protected against yellow fever. In most cases, the vaccination provides lifelong protection. In some instances, the lifelong protection may not apply, and we advise repeating the vaccination. The protection starts 10 days after the injection. The vaccine is suitable for children but is not recommended for those younger than 9 months and pregnant women. You can come to us for a safe and reliable vaccination, as we are LCR-certified and therefore authorised to administer the yellow fever vaccination.
Enhanced controls
Several countries require proof of vaccination, even after a layover in a country where yellow fever is present. It is crucial to be aware of this requirement! To avoid issues at the border, check the current status of yellow fever advice for each country you visit. The lifetime validity of the yellow fever vaccine is not accepted by the Congolese and South Sudanese government. The vaccine must not have been given more than 10 years ago. During an appointment at KLM Health Services, you will receive information tailored to your personal situation. It is advisable to check this well before departure: some countries have a 10-day period after vaccination before entry is allowed. Last-minute vaccination will then be ineffective.
